Moab Epic

The Moab Epic is more an adventure than a race. The best Single Track, Slick Rock and Desert Riding Moab has to offer. It's your race, you get to choose the route. Reach as many of the Checkpoints in the time allowed for one Epic Adventure!

This is your hunting ground. The most Epic riding Moab has to offer, including the Magnificent 7 and Moab Brands Trail networks. Checkpoints will be pre-plotted along the trails and roads of this map. You reach as many of the Checkpoints, in any order, in under 8 or 5 hours, respectively. Directions:
Bar-M Trailhead:  Check-in and the Start/Finish is at the Bar M Trailhead. From the north, exit I-70 at Crescent Junction and drive south on US-191 for 22 miles. From Moab, drive 7 miles north from the Colorado River on 191. When you see the Gemini Bridges parking area, look for a gravel road on the opposite side (east, away from the cliffs). Turn onto the gravel road and immediately go right. Drive past the first parking lot.As you approach the fence and kiosk at the paved trail, turn left and drive 1/4 mile to the gravel parking lot in the bottom of the valley. (View Map)

Race Support

This is a self-supported race (meaning you carry what you need with you for your race).  You will be given a map of the course and you will need to reach as many of the course Checkpoints as you can and punch your “passport”. Riders will be able to use their vehicle for support as the start/finish is centrally located for the event. You can re-supply out of your vehicle for food and water replenishment. Riders MUST carry enough food and water to get you through at least 30+ miles of riding for the 50 mile course, and at least 10+ miles of riding for the 20 mile course. Come Prepaired!

FAQ

What does the Race Map look like? And how does the race work?

The race map provided at Racer Check-in is a topographical map at a scale of approximately 1:35,000. The Checkpoints will be pre-plotted. You will choose your route, reaching as many of the Checkpoints as you can, in any order. A compass is not required, but you are certainly free to use one. Checkpoint Flags will be located at trail intersections or along a trail. Each Checkpoint will have a unique “punch” that you will stamp on your “Passport”. Who Can Race?

The Moab Epic is designed for anyone interested in experiencing an epic outdoor adventure…who can meet the physical demands of biking up to 20, or 50+ miles or up to 3-8 hours. The course has a wide variety of terrain. Single Track Trails, Slick Rock, and Jeep Roads, all with varying degrees of difficulty from beginner to advanced.

Each course is as hard as you want to make it. You reach as many of the Checkpoints as you want, in any order. Take it easy and reach only a few, or race hard to try to reach them all in under 8 hours (5 hours for the 20 mile course).

What age do I have to be to sign up?

You must be 18+ to race the 50 mile course. 16+ to race the 20 mile course.

Minors who race with a parent, and stay together: 16+ for the 50 mile course, 14+ for the 20 mile course.

Do I have to know how to navigate by map and compass?

A topo map is provided with pre-plotted Checkpoints. You should feel comfortable choosing a route using the map as your guide. A compass is not required, but you are certainly free to use one.

Is GPS allowed?

Yes. We will allow a GPS but you should be comfortable navigating with a topo map.
